First of all, babies have a natural tendancy to suckle on breasts, and later lose that instinct, I guess you could say. The fact that they lose the instinct suggests they probably don't need to drink the milk. Secondly, women's breasts get bigger and full of milk after pregnancy for the specific purpose of feeding a baby. The fact that they don't produce much milk when the baby gets older suggests that the woman's body does not need to be giving off milk due to the fact that her baby can seek nutrients elsewhere.
