Scientists find that feminism is bad for your health?

Written By: admin on April 22, 2010 18 Comments

“A study in Sweden, arguably one of the most egalitarian countries in the world …men and women who are equal are more likely to suffer illness or disability…
The scientists… suggested that women’s health could be hurt by greater opportunities for risky behaviour as a result of increased income combined with the stress of longer working hours.” http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-444573/Why-feminism-terrible-health.html

Or is this men’s fault for refusing to become stay-at-home-dads? “…what Sweden needs is complete gender equality with, for example, men entering the private sphere to the extent that women have entered the public”.

Is it feminism’s fault that men and women are more sick and disabled, or is it the fault of men who refuse to become house-husbands?

It’s no surprise. Despise is terrible for your health.

I heard some kids singing a song while they were playing a game. It went, “Bubble gum brown sugar is terrible for your teeth, the more you chew it the more that you’ll see..” Where they the scientist you were talking about? :P

I can hardly imagine how someone could argue that this is the fault of men.

Only modern Feminists could have such perverse notions. They may well blame Flavor Flav, the brilliant rap artist, for their issues and I’d not be surprised, for I cannot know their minds.

The one factor I don’t see in either your opinion or the study is who is doing the housework after the woman has already worked long hours? Is it equally shared, or is the woman doing it all (in other words working two part time jobs)? Without this information the study is flawed.

Add: Rio if that were right, the economy would be in huge distress! lol

Or maybe there’s no causal relationship between feminism and health whatsoever, and this is just as plausible as a study claiming that the economy fares better when the Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup.

Either way, I don’t want a long life.

A daily glass of wine promotes longevity. Looking forward to that glass of wine keeps you alive.

Oh yes, lets lock all the small women up for there own excellent!

I’d much rather have equal opportunities and be able to do what I wish even if what I want to do, is more perilous for my health.

Now excuse me, my glass is out of rum and I want to smoke a ciggy. so ;p

Men knew this all along… that’s why pansified male feminists are a rare breed (Thank God).

Most women knwo this too – and that’s why most women are not man-haters.

I like the theory mentioned in the article that these results are reflecting the stresses associated with the transition that is occurring with respect to gender roles. And, yes, from that perspective, feminism is indeed hazardous to ones health. For me, one vital aspect of this study is the neglected and/or maligned fact that it IS hard for men to deal with the loss of status which was once accorded to being male. Whether or not it was honest or reasonable for men to have this status is irrelevant at this point. The fact is that in countries such as Sweden, the change has been occurring and it has taken a toll. I have raised this issue in the past and have invariably gotten sarcastic responses about “poor men” or the “two wrongs make a right” line of thinking that women had it terrible so it’s about time men started having it terrible. Fascinating study.

Work in a market economy is pretty evil too, but I never see enough people complaining about that anymore. Or suggesting a proper shake up.

If the world was filled with smarter people they would be able to give a wider group of women (and men too) more choice and not question that they drive themselves into the ground in exchange.

Jim, the daily mail is an anti-feminist comic and notorious for carefully choosing its reports.

You forgot to add this part:

“The scientists, from the Swedish National Institute of Public Health, said a possible explanation for the link between equality and illness is that men’s health may be adversely affected by a loss of what had been seen as traditional male privileges.

But the study, published in the journal Social Science and Medicine, also place forward the theory that equality has not yet been fully achieved in society and that these effects are part of a transitional process on the road to fairness.”

So men need to suck it up and learn to share. It will happen with or without the permission of the privileged traditional males.

Resistance is futile. Organisms which are not willing or able to adapt will be selected out by evolutionary forces.

Now a days everything is terrible for your health!! I definatelly consider myself a feminist. Mabe hardcore feminism.

it stands to reason that people who take risks will suffer the consequences. those who work long hours will pay the toll. what’s not honest and reasonable about that? perhaps we should thank men for allowing us to play…?

i used to reckon you really believed all this crap, but this question has changed my mind. you’re just poking the bear.

Can not stand that women have any rights huh Jim. You seem to pick and choose the parts you want.

Its no ones fault. Those scientists seem to ignore that being a housewife has much longer working hours than a full time job.

  15. Rebel F on: 22 April 2010 at 12:40 pm

This study seems flawed, for a variety of reasons that others have already stated.

Even if it is right and having equality makes women live shorter lives, who cares? Most women would rather live shorter lives as equals than longer lives as subordinates.

I don’t mean to be cheeky when I say this, but I do find my living my role in life as a traditional woman, really gives me much less of a headache, for starters we’re not arguing who does what and who isn’t doing enough; truth be told there are times I do even more, and you’ll never hear me complain. careful and steady is the best path; besides, who says I can’t do anything being locked in my house? Perhaps, I can write, sell a book, make things to sell in a store. The sky’s the limit.

  17. LaughingAtLife on: 22 April 2010 at 1:54 pm

I find the whole concept to be silly and not at all believable. Men should not be forced to stay at home with kids; nor should women be forced to do so. Excellent daycares should be provided at low cost so that intelligent well educated parents can have children while continuing to work. I would prefer that productive people have kids rather than dumber people have them.

“Or is this men’s fault for refusing to become stay-at-home-dads?”

There is conclusive proof in The Motherhood Report, 1997, that it’s not because men aren’t responsible fathers that they don’t stay home with kids. It’s because women don’t want to give up their role as primary parents. If women allowed it, divorce laws and judges would need an overhaul. That and more facts in this wonderful book:

The thing with feminism is, unlike the Black Rights Movement, or any other rights movement for that matter, it didn’t know where to stop. And the main part of its propaganda today is misandry. It doesn’t show women in a excellent light, it puts men in a terrible light. That isn’t acceptable, and fortunately people are waking up to this.

If you’re a man in a feminist country, you’re most certainly asking for a heart attack:
