Why don’t people use the searching bar to search for the answers they want in Yahoo! Answers?

Written By: admin on April 2, 2010 32 Comments

I was just wondering why do people question the same questions in Yahoo! Answers (including many other categories) over and over again? Why don’t they just search for it?

For example, in the category “Yahoo! Answers”, people keep asking the same question like “How do I place my own photo on Yahoo! Answers?” or “How can I get to Level 2?” or like “How do I choose the Best Answer?” blah blah blah.

Don’t they know they can search for the answers of these questions by only typing the key words in the searching bar?
What bothers them asking these questions anyways?
Do they really willing to lose 5 points in order to question a question when it’s really free to search for the answers?

I just don’t get this.

Or like in the category “Men’s Health” or “Diet & Fitness”, people just keep asking questions like “Does size matter?” or like “How to lose belly stout?”
I mean, do they really need to question the questions out only because they just want to seek for assurance?

What happen to people who keep asking the same questions anyways?

And I reckon the searching bar is there for some reasons, but not just stays there and not being used.

Thanks for your answers and have a excellent day!
WOW there are so many answers here!

I didn’t expect that people also feel the same way like I do.

And Robob, you’re right. But I did search it first. :D
Sorry guys, I forgot to say I did search for this kind of questions first. And yeah I just want to get some fresh thoughts about this.

  6. Kell on: 2 April 2010 at 7:32 am

You make a fantastic point. That is an brilliant question I wish i knew the answer to. People do not use their brains

  7. David H on: 2 April 2010 at 8:30 am

It kind of clarifies the level of many of the people who question questions here.

  8. cutebabe5007 on: 2 April 2010 at 8:58 am

    THATS what i do first!
    Cuz its quicker and simpler.
You got a excellent point buddy!

People like a personal touch. And they also reckon that they are the only person in the world with their troubles.

That would be incredible…reckon of how many jonas brothers questions we wouldnt have to answer!!

  12. auntcootie2001 on: 2 April 2010 at 11:19 am

Maybe they are looking for new answers

  13. martinse08 on: 2 April 2010 at 11:44 am

I know. Maybe those questions aren’t answered the way they want, so they are re-introducing the question. I dunno. I always search first.

  14. bz on: 2 April 2010 at 12:40 pm

I completely agree. Do you know how many questions I’ve answered about belly button piercings in the past week? And they’re all the same. Either people are too bone idle to sort through ancient answers or they’re not satisfied with the answers people have come up with. Or they’re just dumb as rocks. It’s most likely the latter.

  15. fabulous on: 2 April 2010 at 1:24 pm

People are bone idle and they don’t want to waste their time checking for the same question….

  16. EricaEcstatic on: 2 April 2010 at 2:23 pm

Haha, i reckon people want answers from real people you know?
But the photo questions and stuff about Yahoo! Answers, i agree.

  17. dolphinsilversea01 on: 2 April 2010 at 3:18 pm

Me personally, which is all I can speak for…

I do other research myself, but some issues if not all, also call for the experience more so then the research or text would call for.

Some things work for some people, and sometimes other things work for others.

  18. Robob on: 2 April 2010 at 3:50 pm

Hmm seems like you didn’t use the search either for your question.

    http://answers.yahoo.com/search/search_result;_ylt=AiIajDx_SIIn077bwC8HCcr59xd.;_ylv=3?p=why+don%27t+people+search+yahoo+answers

So Alex maybe you answered your own question? That is why there is repeated questions here on Y/A? Because people want fresh answers to them? Or as you stated also some people just don’t use the search? :) Besides you wouldn’t be a top contributor if you weren’t answering these repeat quetions sometimes?

  19. J on: 2 April 2010 at 4:43 pm

    I have no clue..

but some questions just are better questioned on yahoo answers. like mine about knitting. i wouldn’t even know how to start searching for something like that.

  20. VBnewbieANDherHubby on: 2 April 2010 at 5:39 pm

I don’t mind them asking the same thing over and over because if I know the answer I will answer and I will get points for it!!! lol!
By the way I do use the Search bar, but if I don’t find what I need I question again. It may be similar to what has been questioned but different.

  21. Chris on: 2 April 2010 at 6:38 pm

it is because people don’t reckon of it. it is human nature to go the simple way or the way people are doing it… even if it isn’t simpler lol. but ya i agree.. there are so many of the same questions… sometimes you can even get your answers from other people. you just have to give the person that wrote it credit!

  22. suggestuse on: 2 April 2010 at 6:50 pm

yahoo answers used to have a design where people would question questions, and a similar question would be shown, so that the user wold not have to question the same question.
    yahoo answers new design
is not as efficient as the ancient design.

  23. cj1741 on: 2 April 2010 at 7:48 pm

    I really agree with you.

I guess they are just too stupid (no offense to anyone)

    LoL

  24. stupid & cOntagi0us . on: 2 April 2010 at 8:11 pm

    i agree
sometimes people are just too bone idle
or maybe they want fresh answers

  25. Leigh on: 2 April 2010 at 9:00 pm

Why didn’t YOU use the search bar? I’ve seen this type of question before, too. Besides, YA’s results from those searches suck…it’s often quicker to question again.

  26. Bingalee on: 2 April 2010 at 9:40 pm

Why does this bother you? People come here for a variety of reasons, one of which is for contact with other humans. I know how some of the more senseless Qs like, Am I pretty, How should I decorate my room, do my hair, get drunk etc may frustrate & rage you, but in general people are either bone idle & let someone else do the searching or just like to make contact with others.

  27. Betwixt & Between on: 2 April 2010 at 10:03 pm

You know that THIS question has been questioned about 1000 times already, right?

  28. bAdgIrLâ„¢ on: 2 April 2010 at 11:01 pm

because it’s fun to question it in yahoo answers. you will know their different perceptions and it’s fun to answer someones problem or question. just like yours!!..:-)

  29. km7574 on: 2 April 2010 at 11:54 pm

    why didn’t you?
is it because your question was unique?
    like everyone elses’ questions.
sometimes ,just because a question is similar, it is not always identical. every question is unique in its’ context. so just because the meaning is similar the expectations of the askers may be vastly different.

  30. André on: 3 April 2010 at 12:15 am

weire not all as smart as you.

  31. Susan Yarrawonga on: 3 April 2010 at 12:29 am

Perhaps some people prefer to let other people do their research for them. Some people are probably lacking in searching skills so they prefer to question questions.

  32. TiRO on: 3 April 2010 at 12:59 am

human tend to be bone idle…its quicker to type than searching…. and if you question for a question, you will expect any answers that you like and not… its getting more excited
