Women’s Health: Did you know an STD can cause cancer?

Written By: admin on April 30, 2010 18 Comments

HPV is an STD which causes the majority of cases of cervical cancer. Condoms are only somewhat effective in preventing it, because the virus lives on the skin in the entire genital region of men and women who have it. Four thousand women a year *die* from cervical cancer in the US, as many as die from AIDS. It also can cause infertility and genital warts. Taking oral contraceptives increases the risk of cervical cancer if infected with HPV. **There is no cure.**

There IS a vaccine for HPV. There are also ways to lower the risk : fewer sexual partners and using condoms. It often has no symptoms, so be sure to get those yearly exams, ladies! I just heard about this STD in a Women’s Health book I am reading, so I wanted to pass it along – sorry if it’s a bummer to read about. :-)
LOL… Well, excuuuse me. :-) I’ve been married for about 7 years, so maybe I’m just not up on all the latest. The book I am reading was just published this year, so I figured it was honestly current news. If you already know about it, please save the sarcasm. I’m trying to help people out, here.

Sounds nearly as fun as a new and highly contagous genital wart that is microscopic. My gyno told me about it a while ago, but here is a bit more info on it…

I’m so pleased I have a solid partner for life.

Those things are well known and the vaccine being marketed is effective. Most of us on here are too ancient for the vaccine but if you have preteen and teen daughters (I reckon they say up to 24) please have them get it.

As a matter of fact, I did, even before the Gardasil vaccine started being advertised. But thanks for the reminder. I’m going to try to get the vaccine when I can.

Yep. I’m going to get my first vaccine this month. Apparently my doctor says it’s really the most effective vaccine ever made.

Ha. Anything to protect against disgusting warts is brilliant in my book.
    _____________

Uh, Jeff B, there’s also another vaccine that helps prevent cancer, and that’s the Hepatitis B vaccine. Hepatitis sufferers often develop liver cancer. So, yes, there is a connection between the viruses and the cancer – and the connection makes sense.
    _____________

ksoileau, Brilliance, the vaccine protects against the four most harmful strains of the virus, two types that cause cervical cancer and two types that cause genital warts. There are hundreds of OTHER strains that do not so often cause said illnesses.

Thank you for the info. I guess this is another reason to be celibate until you’re in a steady relationship.

What evidence to prove that a virus causes cancer could be provided?
    Sure it’s possible,
but many many things have been blamed for the same manner of cancer occuring in different areas of the body.
I can reckon of other reasons that make far more sense to me as to why this is occuring.
HPV could very well be another scare tactic to increase condom use and lower population growth.

Reckon deeply about how serious of a problem our growth rate really is.

One person can easily convince 1 in 340 million that they have a deadly disease that will lead to cancer. By simply “spreading the word on it” a person might read the symptoms (which just so happen to be the same as so many other “diseases”) and can choose that they have it on a subconcious level.

I see cancer as an “uncontrolled” growth of cells within the body (ironically similar to our uncontrolled growth upon the world) which could very easily be caused by the brain from the unconcious mind.

We seem to be influenced in such ways that shorten our lives and lead to intimely deaths, while simultaneously limiting reproduction. And I believe very strongly that HPV is one of those things that have been conjured into reality by creation of belief alone. I will continue to believe until I see compelling evidence to the contrary. (Aquisition of such a disease would not be enough).

Reckon of the hypnotist causing a person to delight in eating an onion because they believe it is an apple. Or even when in the bible Moses instructed the people to focus on the staves men carried, to prevent the venom of the snakes from harming them.

I want to harness such creative power for sake of improving the quality of life rather than leading the sheep to the cliff.

Another reason why women should not sleep with men.

  16. Zizi on: 30 April 2010 at 1:44 pm

Thank you Juniper for being so thoughtful. I just heard about it a small over a year ago myself. One thing I do know is that you have to question to be screened because it is not detectable with a regular pap. And secondly the vaccine is not as effective for women over 30, but it is worth a try. I may but be behind the latest developments. Need to do my research. Thank you again for looking out for us ;D

I had really heard about it back in 1999 when I was about to be intimate with a new partner and got tested for everything and even researched STDs and insisted by doctor check for that as well (at the time, it was vinegar and black light to detect the presence of miniscule lesions.)

    “**There is no cure.**”

Most infected people clear the infection without treatment.
